GLOSSARY
strator A term that in Roman and Byzantine times denoted grooms in the service of the Emperor or provincial officials. From the 8th-9th centuries the term "royal strator" was used also as a title within Byzantine court hierarchy, given to low-ranking military commanders or members of the provincial administration.
