The contrarieties that resulted between Asia Minor refugees and locals in the Interwar period were due to friction related to political antagonism, conflicting economic interests or to the mutual distrust created by the cultural particularities that were quite apparent in the first years after the settlement of the refugees.

During the interwar period the refugees became the chief support of the Venizelist bloc, as they were absolutely devoted to Venizelos. However, around 1930 the political attitude of the refugees started to change, with the main characteristic of this development being the gradual shift to the Left.

During the years between the two World Wars the refugee resettlement in Greece was the basic concern of the Greek governments and of the Commission for the Resettlement of the Refugees (EAP). For the realization of this target a series of measures which aimed in finding a solution to the problem of housing and occupation of the refugees was undertaken.
