The city plan of Roman Ephesus is dominated by Arcadian Street. It is a monumental road artery 530 m long and 11.5 m wide framed by porticoes. The street connects the harbour with the Theatre, starting from the Middle Gate of the Harbour and ending in the Theatre square. The current street dates from the late imperial years, when it was completely restored in the years of Emperor Hadrian. However, the architectural remains indicate earlier construction phases. |

Curetes Street extends in a NW-SE orientation along the valley between the Panayir and Bülbül hills. In antiquity it was possibly called Embolos. In Hellenistic years it was the main commercial street which connected the town’s administrative centre with the harbour and the commercial agora. Curetes Street suffered great damages from the earthquakes of the 3rd and 4th centuries AD. The Marble Street ran north-south starting from Theatre Square and reached Couretes Street. It was paved and surrounded by a stoa to the east and the Hall of Nero to the west. In the Imperial period Marble Street was one of the main road arteries of the city and part of the Processional Way. |

The Theatre Street extends from the north-east corner of the square in front of the theatre to the so-called Coressian gate, in a S-N direction. In Antiquity it was called "plateia in Corressus". It was a paved street with porticos and shops along both sides which testify its commercial importance during both the Hellenistic and Roman periods.
