ΠΕΡΙΛΗΨΗ
Philaretos Brachamios, a strategos and kouropalates during the reign of Romanos IV Diogenes, refused after the latter’s death (1072) to recognize the authority of Michael VII and captured cities in Cilicia and Mesopotamia, aiming to create an independent state. In 1078, when he submitted to Nikephoros III Botaneiates, he controlled a large part of south-eastern Asia Minor, extending from the duchy of Antioch to the area of Melitene, as an independent ruler. |
