In 872 the leader of the Paulicians Chrysocheir campaigned against Byzantine territories in Asia Minor. With his troops he advanced until Ankara and the area of Kommata in southern Galatia, which he plundered. During his return to his capital Tephrike he suffered a crushing defeat in Bathys Ryax by the Byzantines, during which his troops dispersed and he lost his life. |
