ΠΕΡΙΛΗΨΗ
The Church of St. Philip in Trebizond is situated outside the city walls and belongs to the type of one-aisled basilica with dome. It must have been built towards the late 13th century. In 1461, after Trebizond was captured and the Church of Theotokos Chrysokephalos, the first metropolitan church of the city, was transformed into a Muslim mosque, the Church of St. Philip became the second metropolitan church of the city. After 1665 it was transformed into a masgid, that is, a Muslim bethel. |
