The Greek printery of Ayvalık was one of the most important of the kind in Asia Minor in the 19th century. It was established in 1819 in the heyday of the Greek Enlightenment and while the Academy of Ayvalık was in operation. Although its activities were suspended in 1821, after Cydoniae was destroyed, the establishment of the printery is considered one of the most important accomplishments of the Greek Orthodox community in the early 19th century. |
