Bishopric of Teos

1. Bishopric of Teos

Teos, a town to the northwest of Lebedos, in the province of Asia, was a bishopric seat and a suffragan of the metropolis of Ephesus.1 In the notitiae episcopatuum of the Middle- and Late Byzantine period, the bishopric of Teou or Tios or Teos was ranked 29th to 32nd among the bishoprics that were suffragan to Ephesus (out of 34-39 in total). Bishops of the town took part in the Fourth Ecumenical Council (451), in the Seventh Ecumenical Council (787) as well as in the council of 536.
