George Chrysokokkes was an eminent scholar of astronomy, medicine and geography in the Late Byzantine period. He lived in the 14th century. He belonged to the School of Trebizond, where he was taught astronomy. He followed the tradition Gregory Chioniades had established in astronomy, while his work, 'Introduction to the Syntaxis of the Persians' introduced to Constantinople and to the West the Persian tradition of astronomy and greatly affected all subsequent astronomical studies in Byzantium. |
