A necropole outside the antique Ephesus wall, on the eastern slope of Panayırdağ. According to the legend, in that cave seven young Christians hid during the persecution of Decius (mid-3rd c. A.D.), fell asleep and woke up in the years of Theodosios II. Due to the miracle, the area became a preferable place of burial, with different kind of burials and succesive additions up until the 7th c., when the cemetary appears to have been abandoned. |

Ephesus (Antiquity), Crevice temple |

The foundations of a tetrastyle prostyle temple are preserved north of the Olympieion. It is known in the archaeological research as Felsspalttempel”, i.e. Crevice temple, since it is built over a crevice in the bedrock. It is dated to the 4th century BC and it might be identified with a temple dedicated to Pythian Apollo. |
